Sudan war- A forgotten conflict
In the first International Seminar this autumn we will focus on the ongoing civil war in Sudan. The conflict, that broke out in April 2023, has led to the world’s largest refugee crisis with more than 10 million displaced people and an imminent famine. We hear very little of this conflict in Norwegian media although the threat of a new genocide in the Darfur region is increasingly present.
What are the historical and social roots of the ongoing civil war in Sudan? How has the relationship between the over 60 different ethnic groups in the country influenced the conflict?
How has the international community handled the conflict in Sudan so far, and what challenges do they face in delivering humanitarian aid and promoting peace?
How have Norwegian media covered the ongoing armed conflict in Sudan and conflicts in the Horn of Africa in general? Can anything be done to improve media coverage of this region?
