Internasjonalt seminar:
ARE WE SAFE IN EUROPE?
Queer rights under pressure

OBS! Dette seminaret vil foregå på engelsk.

The struggle for the rights for LGBTQI+ persons in Europe has made progress in recent years, but it is far from over. In some parts of the world, we are also seeing a backlash and LGBTQI+ rights being threatened. Basic freedoms of expression and assembly for queer people are also under pressure in Europe. In Norway, LGBTQI+ people have experienced harassment, with insecurities being magnified in the wake of the mass shooting in Oslo during Pride festivities last June.

  • What is it like to live with one’s rights being under threat, or being taken away?
  • What contests over values are being used against LGBTQ+ persons, raising the threat of incitement to violence and hate crimes?
  • Do we see a larger political trend in Europe that we can, and should, analyse and respond to?

We will hear perspectives from Norway, Hungary, and Poland about queer experiences of security, the right to be oneself and to be visible.
